Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy

Call Apollo     for an obligation-free appointment      Not all restorative drugs will cause your hair to fall out completely, but you may experience different degrees of thinning, and you may also experience changes to your eyelashes, eyebrows and other body hair parts. Chemotherapy: if your hair falls out due to chemotherapy treatment, once the treatment is finalised your hair will usually grow back, however, it may take some time. By the 5th or 6th month after finishing your treatment you should have a full head of hair, perhaps thinner, thicker, curlier or a different colour, or perhaps there may be no change at all. We know how devastating hair loss can be, and how – after you finish your treatment – you want to look normal as soon as possible, but your hairs usually grow at a slower pace than you wish. Also, some affected people may need to take medication for some years – one of the side effects could be thinning hair.   Here is where we can help. If you cannot wait for normal growth to return, or if your doctor tells you that you will experience a thinning of the hair due to medication for longer than you wish, we can provide a solution. Radiotherapy treatment: will always cause hair loss in the area where the beams target, but in the case of head treatment it is also possible that the opposite side of the head will experience loss too (the exit side). It may take 5 to 6 months for all your hair to grow back or it may come back a bit patchy. Unluckily, for a few patients, the hair may not grow back at all. The impact of hair loss for some women and children, and yes, men too, is sometimes greater than undergoing the treatment, and it is normal to feel some loss of self esteem especially since it is difficult to adjust to so much in such a short time.
